Kenneth S. Brecher

Executive Director of the Sundance Institute

Brecher previously served as President of the William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia, Director of the Boston Children's Museum, and Associate Artistic Director of the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles. He was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University, and an honors graduate of Cornell. An anthropologist by training, Brecher has been the recipient of numerous fellowships, including a research grant from the Getty Center for Education in the Arts and a Ford Foundation fellowship for his study of Amazonian tribesmen in Brazil. He serves on a number of boards, including the Nathan Cummings Foundation, the North Fork Preservation Alliance in Utah, the Public Program Committee of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Advisory Board to Galleries of Moore College of Art and Design, in addition to serving as an advisor to the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation's Fund for Cultural Innovation. He has lectured and published widely, and is the author of Too Sad to Sing: A Memoir with Postcards.
