eForum:
Funding Media that Matters

Welcome to Funding Media that Matters! This eForum will be a work-in-progress - an ongoing conversation about how the funding community can be more actively and constructively engaged in the support of media projects that not only entertain us but also educate and elevate us. It will showcase ideas, information, and opportunities for foundations to support the tools of entertainment and popular culture – tools that can be deployed toward the unfinished project of building a better world.

This eForum will be a "safe," respectful place in which we share information and practical tips on various models of "media that matters". These will range from messages embedded in media products to those that more fully embrace social mission topics. They will include the enhancement of media infrastructure, as well. This eForum is intended to be a "swap-fest" where good ideas can be translated into real projects, thereby advancing a funder's fiduciary and social missions. Its goal is to help trigger interest, synergies, and collaboration across a range of funders, large and small.

As time goes by, we will be adding new members to the eForum and perhaps open up the conversation on select topics to special invited guests. As we proceed, we may find that there are natural affinity groups, with special reasons for collaborating separately.

Your eForum facilitator will be "money and morality" consultant, activist, and former Harvard University professor Marcy Murninghan. Marcy served as a workshop facilitator at the "Investing in Media that Matters" gathering at Sundance Village in January of 2003.
